Google Tips
Everyone likes a shortcut now and then. Here are a few from Google:
- Be specific by using quotation marks (“ “). Tell Google exactly what you want. For example, “Windows XP bugs.” You’ll be surprised at how well it works.
- Use the minus symbol (-) to subtract from your search. If you want to find pages on Star Wars, but not Episode 1 you would search this way: “Star Wars” – “Episode 1.”
- Use ~ to find similar terms. To search for a word and all its synonyms, use the ~ key. If you type ~ mobile phone, you will get results with the word “phone” as well as “cell,” and “wireless.”
- Use “or” for multiply word searches. For example you can say “vacation London or Rome” and get results with vacation and either London or Rome.
- Search numerical ranges. If you want information about someone from 1959 to 1968, just type persons name 1959 … 1968 and the results will be for just that time period.
